WE ARE ALL MENTALLY ILL

Mental illness is a national tragedy, I’ve lived through a son’s descent into schizophrenia and death at age 39. We Americans act like our homeless and millions of opiate and alcohol deaths are some kind of calculated scourge to be battled with punishment and wars against cartels. Jail is not a mental health recovery solution and in many cases addiction is much more of a mental health problem than a crime problem. Cartels in Latin America — albeit evil, violent and malevolent — are limitless in insurgent regeneration … the root issue is demand and narcotics demand is largely a mental health issue. Can we Americans get honest and serious about solution and value of human life? Not addressing mental health means we are suffering collectively with a psychological pathology because we are not rationally dealing with those among us with more acute mental illness. What is really more sick, acute mental illness suffering or mass mental illness denial?
