Why ‘Silence’ Is the Word of the Year

The very act of typing this is vandalistic graffiti to the premise of silence. Silence is the antithesis of everything 2018 showcased — loud, insistent, incessant, grandiose, bellicose, anti-listening, egotistical, clamorous, trauma soaked 2018. Truth, reflective, respectful, civil, kind, just, mindful, wonder, peace and moment crushing 2018. Uncommon consciousness and planet groaning wide scale cultural trashing 2018.

Silence, the availability of mindfulness or contemplation, the requirement for listening, the nurture giver to being in the moment — it eludes me now as I race put words to the food I deny to my own soul. Wretched fool I am, I admire stories, myths and entertainment and will not do the nourishment to prepare myself to go quietly to the table to savor them.

This, then, is the end to my blurting out. The relinquishing to acceptance and humility to stop the fight of my burning desire to be heard and just stop. Perhaps now I will sit in this chair and enter into silence.
