To this articles point I passionately believe and cognitively accept that change resides in who I am and how I behave and respond in my life and with those whom I in some way touch. I added the qualifier “cognitively” because while I can mouth the words that this article represents I have found for me that living them is not so easy or sure footed.

My ability to be the change is limited by my unconscious biases and patterns and the defects in my character some of which are yet to be corrected and some of which are yet to be discovered. My ability to be the change is limited sometimes by my lack of willingness to have taken the grounding action (such as quiet meditation) to do the things which put me in a place to have the power or center to manifest and have the behaviors and energies to be the change.

Sometimes if I share this I will be told in a kind tone “don’t be so hard on yourself” or that “nobody is perfect”. I’m not hard on myself. I’m kind to myself, love myself (and others), believe in mercy and love life. Progress not perfection is my aspiration. And, I also believe each of us has enormous untapped potential to change the world and honesty, willingness and humility are key ingredients.

I never cared for the sentiments of John Mayer’s song “Waiting on the World to Change”. Nothing against John, I love lots of his music. I’m believing for a new age and it starts with me and I’ve made progress yet aspire to and believe much more change is possible. We’ll see.
