This hit the nail on the head for me. Mature science would be comfortable and unthreatened in practice of observable and reason and also with speculation and considering calmly Jung, Kuhn, Tesla, Sheldrake and so on. Keeping values and foundational compass while remaining truly open minded and philosophically expansive is not contradictory. Psychology and psychiatry would be advance at a much higher rate if less obsessed with insecure pursuit of legitimacy by disproportionate emphasis on areas such as statistics (math) and current best measures of biological characteristics. Underlying all the reluctance is fear. Unfortunately society at large is so full of bias, prejudice, superstition, religious intolerance and bigotry that science has reason to feel besieged and reluctant to be less rigid. Fear. Fear is far worse than stealing, it’s killing us.
