This article is spot on and the United States is foolish not to be fast tracking nuclear based power plants for the reasons given and following additional reasons: 1) Our expenses for healthcare and military are both way over cost compared with the cost/GDP of any other country. The only place to gain global cost competitiveness while maintaining living wage and safety is to use nuclear power to gain cost and environmental advantages through power. Wind, thermal, solar are great (I have a 15Kw ground based solar system powering my house and ranch) but they do not have the cost and space advantage of nuclear. 2) Thanks to our Virginia Class nuclear submarine program we have proprietary technology in tools, process and people.
It’s a foregone conclusion of “when” not “if” we will “re-adopt” nuclear power. Global warming is too far gone and our unwillingness to adopt consumption and lifestyle changes will leave us no choice. Carbon capture will require an enormous amount of power. Lewis Strauss (a smart dude) may have been somewhat too strident in his visionary view of nuclear power and power transmission and Dwight Eisenhower (also a smart guy) somewhat too supportive but their assessments were full of merit.
