THE RACE FOR IMPROVED BATTERY BY USA IS DO OR DIE

I’m hopeful as an American we have to win any battery competition. Oil and gas is stored energy analogous to a battery and we’ve had the advantage of having access to a lot of fossil fuel. Within the last 100 years Germany and Japan went to world war to become superpowers by gaining oil and gas assets (in the case of Germany oil meant Russia. To Japan it meant Southeast Asia, Pacific Rim).

Solar and wind is a cheaper source of power and getting cheaper exponentially. Add a quantum improved battery and the cheap energy becomes wind/solar+battery.

IF new stored energy other than oil happens then Germany, France, Poland, China, Japan, India, Italy (60% of the world) would jump to the “new stored energy. The import cost of oil and gas for countries without reserves is a outflow they are motivated to end. IF the battery technology gets enough improvement then non-oil/coal located factories, foundries, distribution, farming, manufacturing would gain long term cost advantage with USA on the ropes playing catch-up at cost disadvantage. Our public would rather be 2nd tier than use the cheapest power (excluding collateral cost debates) — namely stored energy put here by the stars themselves (nuclear).

Africa has limited infrastructure for electricity, oil or gas — “battery” would be instant fix and Germany, India and China would be the superpowers and Africa their backyard.

Here in USA to be laid off and the government pay checks during the pandemic is debt — and our debt worthiness is based on income (GDP). If USA loses the cost advantage on energy it would create a problem.

It’s a risk America can’t afford to take. We need to be the leaders in inventing better batteries.
