The Judeo-Christian religion is founded on a simulation assertion. If we take the Old Testament of the Bible at face value … God “spoke the word” and thereby fabricated our perceived universe out of nothing there is arguably no difference between that rendering of perception fabric and a rendering using modern terms of coding. Regardless of interpreting this as literal or metaphorical it is “speaking a word” or “coding a functional representation” and they are the same genre — namely using some form of structured linguistics to convey a conception. Ergo, Christians are proponents of simulation theory.
When we, which we will if we survive on our current technological trajectory (Elon Musk argument), achieve simulation indistinguishable from the sensory experience we are have now … will that moment cause us to question how many layers of simulation we are in? Infinity is a pretty slippery concept. Plato returns from being outside the cave and the cave dwellers reasonably assert his experience of what he thought was a true sun was nothing more than a step into an infinity of endless caves.
