Thank you for article. Last year we installed a ground based 15KW grid tied solar farm on my ranch. It’s performing as promised at all my key measurement points — output, behavior under different solar conditions, reduction of use from the grid and credits to grid. So why this solar farm comment on a truth in battery article? I’d like to be able to calculate a backup battery supplementary addition to the now year old solar solar system. Doing that has proven to be a search through a jungle of mixed data, operational performance facts, or industry comparison benchmarks.
I spent $23,000 in total for the solar farm. I don’t expect the battery industry to give a hoot about a market of $20,000. But — I’m an infinitely small part of an enormous market which includes vehicles, power, equipment, communications, mobility and utilities just to name few. I suppose GM or Volkswagen can pay for a few dozen EEs to wade through to the facts. There is a huge market, in aggregate, of smaller applications and applicants that are waiting for more than an occasional glimpse through the battery fog.
