Shelly, you won’t particularly like my response because I don’t disagree with you. I do homestead, I love being outdoors, taking care of wildlife, gardening, farming, environmental restoration. Didn’t start it with a “prepping” or “island” motivation — I just enjoy and love being out here doing it. If supply chain problems and environmental conditions deteriorate what a bummer — we will need to pull together more not bunker more. While I passionately agree with you that everthing is connected. My experience of nature (living in it) is that complete connectedness is more profound and true than we conceive. I believe your view of needing to learn cooperation and collaboration is understated. I think it will slowly get worse and more painful to bring us to a place of authentic surrender to interconnectedness motivated by desperation. That won’t happen by yachts or underground apocalypse escape pod villages or clever homesteads. It will happen in grit and determined resilient relationship and systemic modification and evolution. Maybe this is wildly misguided speculation, we’ll see what happens.
