Putin is a former KGB thug with no regard for ethics or statesmanship — Russia did not invade Ukraine, the Russian army directed by an oligarchy invaded Ukraine. The current and former US Presidents, administrations and governance are far, far from spotless. My view is that on the scales of human rights and freedoms America tips toward progress over time. It does not matter if that is true or not, the “right now” is always the only rational thing to choose (there is this apparent attribute called “time” with little latitude for redoing the past). Right now a bunch of thugs who have an economy 1/2 the size of the California economy are just smashing in and grabbing a neighbors house including killing some of the innocents. I’m appreciative of the moral landscape, review of past mistakes, theoretical debates about the balance of good deeds and bad deeds — and, for now, human decency says “no”, we’ll as a global village, react negatively to you crashing into your neighbors house, killing innocents, taking their property. This act by the Russian oligarchs is not helpful or healthy, Russian and “bone-to-pick” trolls can obfuscate or ridicule this basic human choice in an attempt to vent against a fundamental “à la carte” situational view of a particular action by a specific group — context doesn’t justify Putin’s and Putin’s oligarchy actions.
