Jessica, I have been deeply involved in political campaigns here in Texas for the last 5 years. Was coordinator for 5 counties for Beto O’Rourke against Ted Cruz for US Senate and was the host for county 254 extravaganza at railroad depot in Cooke county. Walked neighborhoods and knocked on about 500 doors and made phone calls. Then in 2020 was finance chairman and main campaigner for Pat Ledbetter for State Rep — running on support for education, healthcare and broadband coverage (which is what most people in district say they want). Again lots of driving, door knocking (with mask). Until 5 years ago had never been involved in politics.
Lost both times. Now am the “liberal” albatross to the neighborhood. Some days I feel like “what’s the use, I live in rural Texas.” I will sit and do 10 minutes of meditation, focus on love as motivation, get up and tell myself people have kept going a lot longer through a lot worse and just keep going. I will not quit, if nothing else at least I nourish my motive that I love everyone and my whole planet and am trying to show love.
