I was born and lived all my life in Texas and have actively campaigned for Democratic Party candidates since 2017. We have unconnected electrical grid that cannot sell or buy electricity from the rest of the US with electric bills that just went up 20%, we are highly uninsured on healthcare, our public school teachers are paid about 20% below average, over 50,000 mental health positions are unfilled, we lack systemic solutions for border security relying solely on an emotionally (fear driven) physical “border wall”, we lack a plan for our scarce water, our rural communities lack broadband, we lack mass passenger transit by rail. Few Texans disagree with these persistent festering problem issues but it has sparse impact on the vote results. Extreme Gerrymandering has some degree of impact but there is an undercurrent of motivation for being “red” that while my GOP friends can list grievance (need for strict abortion law, defense against transgender or teaching of “CRT”) the real basis for “red status” is an undercurrent to which I often guess but would not offer the guess because I lack quality research or data.
