I read your geography stories because I’ve come to appreciate the math and underlying data revelations of geography. I honestly did not realize, years ago, what my geography teacher was attempting to convey about the opportunity for geographic insight. In fairness I didn’t comprehend the beauty of math or chemistry either. Literature and history got through a little, sporadically. This geography article is especially sobering. If one is living in Texas, as I am, amongst the “flyover” states, as I do, they might not feel the sense of stability of equilibrium about the midterm elections that seems to be prevalent outside my area. The geography using the 100th Meridian as a backbone cascades into a different demographic and culture than broad brush generalizations.
