I live in Texas — born raised and here all my 71 years. Through circumstances I didn’t seem to choose but have developed a wide range of close friends 1st generation immigrants from Mexico, Honduras and Venezuela. They are culturally, sociologically, values and priorities very (in generalized way) really different from each other. Geography matters because history matters — these countries have very different roots and legacy. The Honduran flag has 5 stars — Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Guatemala standing for the original Central American Federation. Want to build progress toward a more constructive approach to address the northward migration? Stop treating the region as some generic blob with stereotype description. The regions don’t look the same, have the same resources, climate or cultures. Getting geography straight might be a good place to start.
