I hope that open mindedness is a choice. I have a conscious determination, assuming the thoughts in my head are consciousness, to be actively working to be open minded. Ask anyone if they are open minded and 99% will answer “basically, yes”. I ask myself if my experience is that 99% of the people I know are truly open minded (no) and then I ask myself if I think I am “special” or radically “different” from people in my life (no). Open mindedness must be more elusive and challenging than our subjective self-talk tells us it is. I think 3 year olds are pretty open minded. Remembering that perspective may be challenging.
