I have been working with recovering alcoholics for over 18 years. Many describe this moment. It is very dramatic and I have worked to listen and capture the energy when someone “gets it”. The moment that some of us have when we surrender to the need for change and become willing to go to any lengths. The most common terms I hear are described with these words:

“a moment of clarity”,

“sick and tired of sick and tired”,

“realization of can’t stop and can’t go on”.

The idea of disgust deserves to be listed.

Regardless of words it is a fascinating psychological phenomenon. Psychoanalysis has been documenting the moment for at least 110 years. The more people write about it the better, discussion about reaching this point in one’s life journey and getting a better understanding of the event would be invaluable.
