I chuckled when I read this. I’m an alcoholic 22 years sober. The self awareness to observe patterns and thinking in the way depicted in this article sounds like people in AA that have some of the tools it takes to stay sober. I have learned if I will practice the same principals across all the parts of my life I can learn to observe what I do, my life situations and relationships, and discover problematic patterns and filters. When I adopt doing the work (“it works when you work it”) useful results consistently follow. So after following a program that works well and gives me life and freedom when I do it most fellow humans would say “if it is producing good results just keep doing it”. Easier said than done and if anyone reading this doesn’t have the frustrating experience of simply failing to work what evidence says is effective — good luck with not having the “pain-admit-own-willing-do-practice” cycle, hats off to you.
