I believe this view proposed is perhaps accurate. I had two thoughts as I did an internal thought experiment of “What if Jessica’s thesis is correct?”.
1. I protested against nuclear power in my 20’s and wore the tee shirt. It doesn’t get even discussed in a calm, calculated way — and, if we are this behind in addressing climate change I have doubts that individual efforts of eating beans and vegetables, not buying anything and avoiding plastic bags and voting for Democrats will create enough change fast enough. Depending on how much climate change has occurred and how fast it may be occurring … if we were desperate wouldn’t we consider all options? If terraforming is required isn’t it going to require an enormous amount and source of continuous power? Not proposing nuclear power, just raising the question.
2. Wouldn’t it be a systemic change of human consciousness to adopt the radical change suggested? If consciousness changed enough to “unscrew” the planet from a Homo sapiens perspective wouldn’t it entail a lot of other shifts? What would that consciousness shift look like broadly not just in environmental impact but socio-anthropological impact? Isn’t the suggested solution shift pretty massive? Just asking.
