I believe Darwin was on to something when he proposed the theory of evolution. If so, the challenges of adaptivity might be more expansive, stranger than imaginable, adding other shifts to expansive technological frontiers. I have intuitional bias that for humans to survive we will have to evolve in our consciousness as a species. Maybe not just the purely rational “Spock” conceived by Gene Roddenberry (a man who flew 89 harrowing WWII combat missions) — but somehow paradigm changing consciousness with higher capacity for reason and compassion. A colony on Mars might help us raise our vision as much as it extends our range.
