As a lifelong Texan this rings true to me. Talk of “open borders” by Texas GOP to scare existing population of losing imagined control (vote for me, Abbott, etc.) … while simultaneously using cheap immigrant labor to harvest big profits. What no one will hear from current Texas administration is “no one is for “open borders” and we will cooperate where we can while we communicate support for comprehensive immigration reform from federal government to address the plethora of issues needed to stabilize a complex and multifaceted set of issues.” Adult statements are in short supply. Yes, we need border control …. And to rethink our “war on drugs” that funds the mass violence spurring flight … and much more funding for immigration processing, courts, systems, legal immigration reform … and controllable work visas … and dealing with illegals who have been here 20 years since coming as a child … and on and on it goes. There is little tolerance for calm, bi-partisan and non-partisan, compromising and hard work for solution. Cooperation and dialogue doesn’t get followers, acrimony and bombast does.
