As a lifelong Texan I would like to add, pun intended, we have also have a simmering water problem.
In regards to our electrical grid … refusing to connect Texas to the US East and West electrical grids (and selling our often excess wind and solar energy) is the epitome of greed and arrogance. Greed because the oil and gas billionaires who own the gerrymandered and bought state officials are using state politics to force more gas fired power plants.
One thing not mentioned is impact on rural electric coops in Texas. We have 76 electric coops serving 3 million Texans (as a sprawling geographically big state with many sparsely populated areas the REA, FDR’s federal Rural Electrification Administration, fostered most of these coops 1935-1939). These coops often must buy electricity from ERCOT and during recent outages our state government let ERCOT set prices that bankrupted these coops.
It seems no about of publication will alter the malfeasance of Texas policy.
