As a former member of “big tech” my experience was my company was not malicious or immoral, just amoral. This does not imply lawfully unethical, where I worked there was a high commitment to ethics. Capitalism and power/celebrity influence are in some ways a type of scoreboard. We have made checks and curbed capitalism many times in American history. Ego gratification and power/celebrity/material accumulation is applauded by our society. Charlie Sheen, “winning”. Dramatic negativity, divisiveness and hateful polarization generates more eyeballs. After all, this article is generated as a reflection of ego polarity excess.

I believe in non-violence … for me. A good portion of the fearful and powerful aren’t just interested in subjugating races but all of nature — the power priesthood has always seemed to be interested in subjugating all “nature”. Water, soil, air, oceans, fish, polar bears and nematodes are just as much fodder for subjugation and exploitation as races. For me my belief is that violence in return will not change dynamics. My definition of violence includes words, attitudes, intentions and of course actions. I am far from perfect in living my own opinion.

This is not easy. I live in a very far right part of Texas, USA. It’s true, humor gets used to convey vitriol, hate, bigotry. I work to use humor as a medium for understanding, listening, opening conversation. I work to listen and understand and find the fear and good parts and I often find a quiet corner and ask the God of my understanding for help. I cannot do it on my own. Sometimes it feels hopeless but when I need it good will come along like a sunflower in a grimy railroad yard.

Everything is local. I focus on my small world. There are candidates for President of USA from my home state that focus on the positive, what they are for and willingness to listen. Many women in my state of Texas are stepping up to lead and I am inspired by them. We are global citizens, much of my adopted family are Latino immigrants and they are truly global citizens, hard-working ambassadors of good will. I am, in my better moments, optimistic and confident. Peace wins.
