Anti-Covid Vaccine: It Ain’t About What It Is About

Biden made one of his typical gaffs saying Facebook misinformation was “killing people” — now in my rural Texas town at church and at the tire shop I hear the locals quickly chorused that the liberals want control of the media.

Polls show that ~20% of Americans refuse to get a Covid vaccine. The “anti” 20% is politically partisan. By polls and vote. States that voted for Donald Trump in the last election have the lowest vaccination rates.

An avid Trumper who owns the tire shop I use is ~65 years old with many heart surgeries and he and older male white friends gang up at the shop for all the world looking like a KKK meeting with some telling each other they will never be vaccinated. I tell them I disagree and the response, and I quote was, “you are just one of them liberals”. When I tell them I am an independent the shop owner replied, and I quote, “You can’t be, you have to pick sides!”. I told him I didn’t. You should go with me to meet Howard and investigate this conversation first hand.

Anti-vaccine misinformation is rampant on far right news outlets and gets echoed by federal elected Republican officials. To me it is a baffling phenomenon.

The summation of this short article is an opinion: Whatever it is “about” … it AIN’T what it is about. I don’t know what is underneath but I can sincerely report 1st hand that the ~20% anti-Covid vaccine folks are sincere and generally fit the mode of “good, God fearing, law abiding” people. Whatever the divide it is it is a “we” question not a “them” question.
