A kind and generous deed performed completely anonymously, ha! One a day works wonders on my psyche — I just keep forgetting in spite of predictable repeatable efficacy … yesterday’s dose doesn’t help today. The need to build reinforcing reminder tools (analogous to tying a string around one’s finger as a reminder) is a curious wonder to me. How can something so beneficial to my sense of well being, performed countless times in a row, still need additional enabling rituals in order for “me” to not forget? I have come to a theory that the part of “me” that psychoanalyst’s refer to, also in theory, as “ego” is actually actively interested in sabotaging “my” life. Maybe so, maybe not. I have interrogated enough people along these lines to know the phenomenon I am attempting to describe is not unique to me.
